PEWARTA.CO.ID - A recent video of President Joko Widodo and former Vice President Try Sutrisno has gone viral on social media, drawing significant public attention.
The video captures President Jokowi attending the 79th anniversary celebration of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), where he is seen greeting several distinguished guests.
However, what caught the public’s eye was the moment when Jokowi appeared to not greet Try Sutrisno, instead shaking hands with other figures such as the 11th Vice President Boediono, the 10th and 12th Vice President Jusuf Kalla, and Shinta Nuriyah, the wife of Indonesia's 4th President Abdurrahman Wahid.
In response to this circulating video, the Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media at the Presidential Secretariat, Yusuf Permana, provided an official explanation. He clarified that President Jokowi had, in fact, already met and greeted Try Sutrisno and his wife before the event began in the VIP holding room.
“Yes, the President had already greeted and shaken hands with the 6th Vice President, Mr. Try Sutrisno, and his wife in the VVIP holding room,” said Yusuf Permana.
Since the handshake had already taken place in the waiting room, the video merely captured the President greeting other guests who had not yet had a chance to meet him.
On the occasion, President Jokowi greeted guests such as Shinta Nuriyah, Jusuf Kalla, and Boediono, as they had not yet encountered him in the VIP room earlier.
“As for the others like Mrs. Shinta, Mr. Jusuf Kalla, Mr. Boediono, and others, they had not yet met the President in the holding room,” Yusuf added.
Yusuf emphasized in his clarification that President Jokowi holds deep respect for all segments of society, particularly the national leaders who have contributed to the country’s progress.
This explanation aims to quell the public speculation sparked by the video. The Palace assured that there was no intentional neglect or omission towards any of the nation's figures, including Try Sutrisno, in this incident.
