PEWARTA.CO.ID — Indonesia has launched MaiA, an artificial intelligence platform designed specifically for tourism, as part of the government's Tourism 5.0 priority program.
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana introduced MaiA, short for Meticulous Artificial Intelligence of Indonesia, at the Sapta Pesona Building in Jakarta on Friday, Nov. 28.
Accessible through indonesia.travel, MaiA is designed to improve tourism services through adaptive technology focused on travelers' needs. The platform is being positioned as a new component of Indonesia's digital transformation in tourism.
“MaiA's launch is a concrete manifestation of the government's commitment to creating a tourism ecosystem that is smart, inclusive, and sustainable,” Widiyanti said in her speech at an event themed “Transforming Travel Beyond Ordinary Through Intelligence.”
A digital travel companion for tourists
Widiyanti said MaiA goes beyond being a technological innovation, describing it as a new approach to tourism services in Indonesia.
The AI platform is designed to act as a digital travel companion that can help travelers discover trip inspiration, instantly arrange routes, and explore Indonesia with greater confidence and convenience.
“This is our step toward creating tourism that is not only beautiful to see, but also smart and inclusive for everyone,” she said.
MaiA is also intended to strengthen the connection between travelers and Indonesia's culture, experiences, and stories. Its features include personalized destination recommendations, automatic itinerary planning, interactive maps, and destination information summaries available in multiple languages.
Responding to changing traveler behavior
The Tourism Ministry said MaiA was developed in response to changes in global traveler behavior, with tourists increasingly seeking travel experiences that are personalized, efficient, and easy to access.
The government expects the platform to help strengthen Indonesia's competitiveness in the global tourism market while supporting efforts to develop tourism that is sustainable and user-friendly.
The Tourism Ministry also hopes MaiA will provide additional value for travelers and reinforce Indonesia's position as an innovative and relevant destination amid growing global tourism competition.
“Let us welcome MaiA together as a step forward toward a more adaptive, competitive, and world-class future for Indonesian tourism,” Widiyanti said.
The launch of Tourism 5.0 and MaiA was attended by government representatives, tourism associations, industry partners, and national and international media.
