Student Found Dead with Baby in Jember Boarding House
Police have installed a security cordon at the scene, and the body has been taken to hospital.

JEMBER, PEWARTA.CO.ID - Residents of Sumbersari District in Jember were shocked by the discovery of a deceased student, identified by the initials JA (24), in her boarding house.

The young woman, originally from Demak, Central Java, was found lifeless in her room located on Jalan Sumatera, Tegal Boto, Jember, around 1:00 AM on October 19, 2024.

AKP Abid Uais Al-Qarni Aziz, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Jember Police, revealed that the tragic incident came to light early in the morning. The victim was studying at a prominent university in Jember.

"Upon our arrival at the crime scene, we discovered the victim had died alongside her fetus nearby. At the time of discovery, the victim was found partially unclothed," stated Abid, as quoted by Tribun Jatim on Monday, October 21, 2024.

According to Abid, when the victim passed away, the door to her room was locked from the inside, preventing anyone else from witnessing the situation.

"The room was locked from the inside, and it was her own boarding house. The baby was already formed and in an intact condition," he added.

The police have gathered evidence and testimonies from witnesses, suspecting that the incident may be related to a botched abortion.

"This case is still under investigation, and we will provide further updates within 24 hours," Abid confirmed.

The Identification and Forensic Team (Inafis) of Jember Police has transported the victim's body to Dr. Soebandi Regional Hospital in Patrang for an autopsy and examination before returning it to her family.

One of the victim's friends, Iqbal Firmansyah (24), shared that prior to the incident, JA had contacted her parents via WhatsApp.

"After her family (the victim's mother) attempted to return the call, they were unable to reach her," he recounted.

The family then sought to contact the boarding house owner to check on JA's well-being. Upon opening the door to her room, they discovered her lifeless body.

"Only after that did the boarding house owner report the finding to Jember Police," he explained.

Iqbal also mentioned that JA had been in a relationship for four years with an older male student from her university. He noted that since they started dating, JA had become increasingly withdrawn from her friends.

"Since four years ago, she has seemed to close herself off from her friends, including me and her close friends. Whether it was because of her boyfriend's influence or her own choice, I cannot say," he commented.

Iqbal further revealed that the victim's boyfriend, who hails from Situbondo, has already graduated from college.
