Indonesia Revokes Five Forest Concessions After 1,169 Hectares Burned

PEWARTA.CO.ID — Indonesia has revoked the forest concession permits of five companies after authorities identified a combined 1,169.13 hectares of burned land within their concession areas in Kalimantan.
Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni announced the measure during a working visit to Central Kalimantan on September 21, 2026, saying the companies had violated their obligations to protect the areas under their permits.
The five companies are PT Wana Lestari Jaya, PT Prima Multi Buana, PT Pancaran Wana Nusa, PT Grace Putri Perdana, and PT Babugus Wahana Lestari.
Raja Juli said the decision was part of President Prabowo Subianto's directive to enforce the law without distinguishing between smaller and larger parties.
"This is part of the President's order, law enforcement without discrimination, not only against the small, not only sharp toward the small, but also sharp toward the big," Raja Juli said, according to an English translation of his statement.
Five concessions across three provinces
PT Wana Lestari Jaya operates in Sanggau and Sekadau, West Kalimantan, with a concession of about 29,140 hectares, while PT Prima Multi Buana holds an 11,882-hectare concession in Banjar, South Kalimantan.
PT Pancaran Wana Nusa has 3,812 hectares in Lamandau, Central Kalimantan. PT Grace Putri Perdana holds concessions totaling 28,990 hectares across Lamandau and Sukamara in Central Kalimantan and Ketapang in West Kalimantan.
The fifth company, PT Babugus Wahana Lestari, has a concession of 18,640 hectares in Kapuas, Central Kalimantan. Together, the five concessions cover 92,464 hectares.
The burned areas varied significantly among the companies. PT Wana Lestari Jaya recorded 47.84 hectares of burned land, followed by PT Prima Multi Buana with 18.20 hectares.
The largest area was recorded within PT Pancaran Wana Nusa's concession at 497 hectares, while PT Grace Putri Perdana had 374.99 hectares and PT Babugus Wahana Lestari had 231.10 hectares burned, bringing the combined total to 1,169.13 hectares.
Companies required to protect concession areas
Raja Juli said holders of forest utilization business permits are responsible for maintaining the areas under their control and complying with obligations attached to their permits.
He said the five companies lost their permits because those obligations had been ignored.
"But once again, because they ignored it and did not care about it, today I have revoked the permits of these five companies," Raja Juli said in a translated statement.
The latest action comes amid a broader enforcement effort by the Ministry of Forestry over forest and land fires in Kalimantan. The ministry had also announced other permit enforcement measures involving companies linked to burned concession areas earlier in September.
Raja Juli said the revocations are intended to serve as a deterrent for other companies operating under the Ministry of Forestry.
"We also hope this becomes a deterrent for all other companies under the Ministry of Forestry so they do not carry out burning or allow forest and land fires to occur," he said in a translated statement.
